I need your help.
There is this one adware program called trovi that has infected my PC but I cannot find any of its files when I try to uninstall it. However, I have not downloaded anything today and pretty much the only web browsing I did was on oppo and jalopnik. To make things worse, since windows 8 transfers your stuff to other PCs, it transferred this to my BRAND NEW $750 LAPTOP! Please help since I want to run over whoever made this program with one of these.

You need to remove the program, remove the Search Protect program, and trim it from the add ons in each browser.
Carefully fix your home pages. They'll be set to redownload Trovi.
MalwareBytes will also work.

Malwarebytes. download, install.
If not take it Staples and have Easytech look at it.

Get MBAM (malware bytes) and run a scan. Also try running this http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

The simplest answer: Windows 8 has a "clean reinstall" option that will set it back to factory defaults. Save your files and it will delete everything . Back up what files you want to save and delete the rest. This would be great for your "brand new" laptop, since you probably don't have much in the way of files and settings on it right now.
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-…
Second easiest solution is to run a scan and fix with Malwarebytes or AVG free, but I can't guarantee it will totally fix the problem, as I don't know the process it goes through to remove it. It's not a conventional virus because it hijacks your browser and re-downloads itself. But if others are recommending it, I'm going to add it to this post.
If you want to go through the much more complicated route of manually getting rid of it without doing a clean re-install, do this:
http://malwaretips.com/blogs/trovi-re…
Also, why the hell did you copy your files over to a new computer knowing that it was infected?
To protect yourself in the future, always scan downloaded programs before installing with a free antivirus like AVG Free. NEVER connect a laptop to the internet that doesn't have some form of virus protection (and Norton doesn't count. Never use Norton. Ever. Get rid of it ASAP.) and set your permissions so that it alerts you before ANY program makes changes to your hard drive to prevent you from being infected.
There's literally 4-5 perfect barriers to keep viruses like that off your computer already put in place with Windows 8 (windows alert, windows firewall, antivirus software, registry fixes, etc.), use them.

If you've already tried looking up solutions then I cannot help you.

Windows 8 copies the stuff over itself since I use 1 Microsoft account. Also, as I said in the post, I have not downloaded anything that could potentially contain adware since I was just playing Euro truck and working on my pc. The thing literally came out of nowhere. I put my PC on sleep for an hour, came back and it had this on it.

Did you have a good antivirus software installed from the beginning, before you started using the computer?

Well since you said Norton was garbage, no. Also, I still cannot manage to find any of the programs that come with trovi and my pc is much slower now.

Make sure you've got show hidden files turned on (should be under Computer > Organize > Folder and Search Options > View)

A few options I can think of.
To find the source of this program, press Left Ctrl + Left Shift + Escape. This should bring up Task Manager. Go to the Processes tab and sort by name (A-Z). Look for this Trovi thing. If it's there, right click it and select "Open File Location". This thing's location should pop up and you can try to delete everything there.
If it's not in task manager, go to the Control Panel. I'm not sure if it's different in Windows 8 from Windows 7 though. Click "Uninstall a program", or whatever its new name may be. You should see a list of all the installed programs. Right click a blank area (I suggest you expand the window horizontally so you have blank space on the right side near the scroll bar) and look for "Sort by". Hover over this and another menu should pop up. Configure it so that the list is sorted by "Installed on" and "Ascending". Now the most recent programs that are installed should be on the very top of the list, and hopefully this Trovi is there as well.
Good luck!

Nothing. Can adware even download while your PC is in sleep!?!?!??!?!?!

That can't be possible. Unless it has been in your computer for a while and never did anything until now.
Also, I knew Windows 8 was stupid, but I didn't know it would transfer stuff like this. Are you sure it wasn't on your laptop first?

I am absolutely positive. The laptop is less than a month old and I use it for oppo/school purposes only. No gaming, no downloading anything. I am good when it comes to not screwing up my PCs. Also, I have dealt with adware before (fucking conduit and sweetpacks) on a different PC, and managed to fix it but I have no clue about this.

You're going to need to scour your program lists, your browser add ons/extensions/so on, and your homepage preferences. It's likely that they've adapted.

Blue screening during downloads sounds a lot like a more serious rootkit.

Good luck. If you can get a successful download (maybe from a flash drive) Malwarebytes should kill it if it is Trovi.

Nothing that should mess your Internet up unless somebody has actively hacked your router and that's far harder to do than to fool you into installing Trovi. You could try restarting in safe mode and trying to run MalwareBytes off a flash drive.

I think it's a browser extension, not a windows program, if there's nothing in your browser -configuration-extensions then it must be somewhere in the browser folder inside the AppData folder of your windows user folder. Run adwcleaner, then some antimalware software...

Switch to Ubuntu. Although for any laptop that costs more than $400 I can not recommend a Macbook Air enough.

MacBook airs are good for students. If you do any professional work, their hardware is a bit limiting, nothing is upgradable, and they have small screen resolutions.

I said for a laptop. If you need something more purposeful than this you must have a very narrow criteria for a laptop. For desktop I always go with build your own route. Unless we are talking about for a large business and then I just recommend whatever Optiplex Dell is selling this week.

There are MANY people out there who need laptops that... you know, allow for basic upgrades and need dedicated gfx cards for professional work. "Narrow" criteria? There are plenty of laptops for the same amount of money as the MBA that blow it away in terms of hardware.

I don't think for it's usage (Ultraportables) that there is a Windows equivalent that does it better for the same price. I have bought two and when I bought the first one everyone gave me such a hard time about it that when I went to buy the second one I went to a Microcenter and told the Windows laptop guy I was there to buy a Macbook Air and I told him to sell me a Windows PC. He could not.

There are some decent Windows ultrabooks out there, but I wouldn't really base my info off of a retail store. While MC is better than most retail computer stores, I find going online and doing your own research to be much better.
Source - years and years of laptop repair/purchasing/fixing/selling
For the money, I think most ultrabooks, Apple ones included, are stupid expensive. You're paying a premium for portability. If I'm shelling out $800+ on a machine; it better have more than 4GB RAM and an SSD larger than 128GB. Oh, and not some god awful screen resolution from 2009 and weird keyboard and trackpad layouts (the MBA isn't really guilty of the keyboard/trackpad layout though).

For my usage a MBA is ideal. The closest non apple equivalent I've found that I'm happy with is a Haswell Chromebook. Like I said if I need real power I take a seat at the desktop.
